Book Outlet haul of disappointment

Well my lovelies, it looks like my final post for the year is a gripe.  Sorry bout that, but my Black Friday order finally arrived on the 29th December and I was so excited to open the box and put my new books up on my shelves.  That was until I examined my copy of Fuzzy Nation.  Now not only did the book have a weird call number sticker on the spine (which was a pain to get off!), but when I went to remove the dust jacket to have a look at the naked book cover it was stuck to the inner cover paper.  What the...?  Carefully I peeled back the dust jacket flap and found not only was this cover a replacement cover for the one that had obviously been ripped when removing it, but there was still glue in sections and the paper was torn.  So not happy!

The most annoying thing about it is that it wasn't only the front cover of the book that was affected.  No, same thing has happened on the back cover too!

Plus this big old hunk of glue that annoys me and I still have the problem of figuring out how to remove all this glue crap without damaging the cover.

Oh, and they also charged me a automatic amount for international shipping of $35 yet it only cost them $25 to send!

Not impressed Book Outlet!

Happy Holidays, and all the best for 2015.  I hope your final book hauls of 2014 ended better than mine did!

Unitl next year,

Bee good

Walking down the street - opposite my library - there are these native plants that are just overflowing with blossoms.  Bees are everywhere and I couldn't resist snapping a few photos.  If you think the little bee in the bottom photo is a tad strange it's because its a native bee ;-D

Reminds me to just stop and appreciate the small things ;-D

Top 5 Historical Books

It's that time again, and since I'm going to be late if I don't get this up very soon, I'll just jump right in ;-D

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

This was the first book by Austen that I'd ever read, and my old battered secondhand copy was full of the most interesting notations.  It had been used by a high school student and her thoughts in the margins were so helpful - as well as funny - as they gave me another persons thoughts on the text.  I now have multiple copies of this book, but I'll never get rid of this edition ;-D

A Yummy Treat

Dropped in to my local Big W this morning - while I was wasting some time before an appointment - and while browsing the shelves I found a great little stocking stuffer!  This brand has to be my favourite as they use all natural products (with no unpronouncable chemicals!), and they feel and smell sooo good.

I already have one of the lip balms in the range, but couldn't resist this pack since it had the cuticle cream that I've been dying to try.  The lip balms are so smooth and creamy, and the peppermint flavouring adds a pleasant tingle.  I'll have to grab another pack ($9.99) as just the lip balm is around $6.75 - and the cuticle cream is $14.99! - so it's not a bad offer.

I'm going to wait until tonight to give this product a go.  With the heat and other weather conditions - plus gardening, household chores, even washing up - contributing to rough skin on my hands I really hope this helps.  I've tried Lanolin before (love it, but too greasey to use just before bed) and since there is no oily residue I have high expectations for the cuticle cream ;-D

Fingers crossed!
