2016 Book Challenges

Looks like this is the year for self imposed book/reading challenges.  I have a couple of the books that I'd like to get to this year, and hopefully by posting this list it will give me the motivation to finally read them!

First challenge is...

This really needs to happen.  I have loved the TV adaptations (first with Joan Hickson, then Geraldine McEwan and Julia McKenzie) for so long that I can't believe that I haven't actually read any of the books... even though I own most of them!  So embarrassing.

To rectify this problem 2016 is the year that I will be reading one of the books a month.  Starting at the beginning in January, and continuing on and finishing The Sleeping Murder in December.  There are two short story collections which I hope to finish this year as well.  To make this more fun - for me! - I will also be watching each of the adaptations for each book. 

This is my second challenge to myself.  I have heard so many mixed reviews about Gone with the Wind (GwtW), and being the big reader in the family people always seem so surprised hat I have not read this!  So that is why I decided that 2016 was the year to tackle this monster.  Bought myself a pretty snazzy edition - cause why not? - and have given myself the WHOLE YEAR to get through this.

I'm not sure whether or not I'll enjoy it, but thankfully I have not seen the movie (shameful but handy), and if I enjoy the book I just might watch the film. 

And my final hurdle will be to read a classic a month.  I have a rough list of what I would like to get through, but I won't commit to a book months in advance just in case I really don't feel like reading that sort of book when the time comes.  

Have narrowed my list down to the following (which are in no particular order)...

As I complete a book, I will mark it off, and see how I go.  Hopefully I will be able to get through all of these ;-D

If you think that any of these books would be best read at a certain time (Christmas, winter, spring, etc.) can you let me know so that I can really enjoy them.

Okay, so these are the books that I will be reading in addition to whatever other books tickle my fancy this coming year.  Will be fabulous to finally get these off my TBR pile - and to say with pride that "Yes, I have read that!".
